November 17, 2010: Oil Paint Collage, Part II

This week we finished our paper mache pieces. Now that they were dry, we could paint them. We rubbed oil paint on them with rags. Once they are dry, they will be hanging in the VAC Student Lounge area.

Announcements

- We decided that we need a Constitution Commitee in charge of writing up a club constitution.
- Leah and Jen are officially in charge of OPUS and will be advertising to collect student work as well as collaborating with the newly formed Literary Club.
- Finding new ways to advertise both Art Club and OPUS.


This week we also looked at the second pieces for Art Club's Monochromatic Show...

Nathan- Style Art

This was part one of a two-week process in which Nathan gave us a glimpse into his own artmaking process...

1. Start with a basic picture frame

2. Break the glass (optional)

3. Tape everything into place, minding the hooks on the back for hanging

4. Create a glue mixture (2/3 glue, less than 1/3 water), shake to mix

5. Using brushes, cover the frame in glue mixture, then in black and white printed materials (ie, newspaper), then cover in glue a second time

6. Allow to dry

"The Factory" is now on display in the student lounge (downstairs in the VAC)

October 27, 2010 Meeting: Back to Basics

Announcements

- We need to be better about bringing food to each meeting. Please contribute so your fellow artists don't starve!
- SXU Art Club now has an unofficial email address (sxuartclub@gmail.com) and a blog (this one!).
- There may opportunities to have our art hung around campus! Anything submitted must be finished -- that means framed and ready to be hung on a nail. So keep making art, folks!
- We are each to make a second piece for our Monochromatic show. We selected new colors this week.

Agenda

This meeting mainly focused on critiquing our first pieces for the Monochromatic show.

Activity

This week, Art Club went "back to basics" with crayons!

October 13, 2010 Meeting: The Factory

This week's activity was "The Factory." 

 

 We each had a large sheet of paper. We each chose an oil pastel.

We made our own unique but identical mark on each sheet of paper.

We did a few rounds to fill up the page.

 

Then we made them our own.
