August 22, 2011: Officers Meeting

Today was the first day of the new school year. The Spectrum Art Club officers met to discuss the year ahead. We had lots of ideas!

Jen, Leah, and Professor Nathan Peck discuss this year's plans for Spectrum Art Club

The Officers want to accomplish a lot this year. Here are some of our goals for Spectrum this year:
- Lots of gallery walks (at least one every month)
- Host and/or participate in a student art show on campus
- Monthly Jams (artmaking activities)
- Display student work on campus

Also discussed:
- Collaborating with the music dept. on a big arts & music event

There will be many opportunities to get our own work seen as well as to see what other artists are doing. Here are just some of the galleries, museums, and artwalks we are attending this year:

Friday September 9, 2011: Pilsen (including Chicago Art Department)
Saturday October 1, 2011: Ravenswood & Pilsen for Chicago Artists Month
Date TBD (late October): National Museum of Mexican Art

October is Chicago Artists Month, a huge art celebration in Chicago. We plan on taking full advantage of it by going on weekly artwalks that month.

Next week (Monday August 29th) is the first meeting with new members! We are very excited to meet the new members, welcome them to Spectrum Art Club, hear their ideas, and work with them.

Agenda for Next Week:
- Meet new members
- Introduce Spectrum Art Club to new members
- Chalk pastel Jam
- Snacking

April 29, 2011: Art Chicago & Chicago Art Department

Art Chicago -- the biggest annual art event in the Midwest! Every year, artists and galleries take over a floor of the Merchandise Mart in Chicago. It can be overwhelming -- we spent hours wandering around! Aaron & Leah spotted an authentic Mr. Brainwash, which made us chuckle. But the highlight of the day was when Nathan, Aaron & Leah got to meet Shephard Fairey. He even signed a couple Andre the Giant stickers for us.

After Art Chicago, Lisa & Leah visited the Chicago Art Department (of which Professor Nathan Peck is co-founder). It was the last event being held at that location on Halsted in Pilsen. The night was marked by several performances, including a set by Nathan's band The Fives.
